Swimming @ Clifton

At Clifton we want all children to be proficient swimmers by the time they transition to secondary school.
The Government expect as a minimum that children will swim for 25 hours throughout their primary schooling. At Clifton children start swimming when they are in Year 1, and will swim for ten 30 minute sessions each year until the end of Year 6, adding up to 35 hours in total.
Our aim of for all children to reach STAGE 6 on the Swim England Learn to Swim programme (see below) by the time they leave the school at the end of Year 6. Eagles Class swim in the Autumn Term; Woodpeckers Class swim in the spring and Robins Class in the summer . All swimming lessons take place at Lower Wick Swimming Pool in Worcester. In the sessions, children are grouped into three groups depending on their current swimming stage. Swimming instructors at the swimming pool take two of the groups and the class teachers take the final group.

From 2022, all swimming is taught and assessed in line with the Swim England Learn to Swim programme. This is also the scheme which children also work towards in the swimming lessons they undertake outside of school.
