Week beginning 8th June 2020

Friday

PE  Why not start the day with some mermaid themed yoga? Click here to go under the sea.

Writing  In the story of Tiddler there are some clocks.  How many can you find? What times do they show?

Can you draw and write a simple diary of your day? (At 7 o’clock I get up…)

A puzzle There are lots of clocks in the story with roman numerals.  Can you work out which numbers are which?

Creative. Try making an aquarium.

Investigating. When oil spills into the sea from big ships it is very bad for all the creatures that live in the sea.  Login to Seesaw to have a go at an Oil Spill Clean-Up experiment.

Thursday

Writing I wonder if you could make a passport for one of the underwater creatures?   Login to Seesaw if you’d like to use a template.

Creative/Science Why not have a go at creating a fabulous watery picture and doing some investigating at the same time?  Login in to Seesaw for some instructions on how to do it.  Don’t worry if you haven’t got all the equipment to compare and contrast – just use what you have got to make a lovely effect.

Read the Powerpoint below about Starry-Eyed Stan then have a go at the PE instructions on Seesaw.

Wednesday

Writing  Do you remember the underwater video you watched yesterday?  Imagine that you could go diving underwater. What might you see? Don’t forget to draw a picture to go with your writing too!

Understanding the World. You need to be able to sink and float to go diving.  Login to Seesaw to try a Sea Salt water density experiment or find a toy person who floats and try to make a jacket that makes him/her sink.

Creative Make a scuba mask from a paper plate – or one for your teddy!  Or paint yourself into an underwater scene with your scuba gear on!

Tuesday

Write a short story about Tiddler riding somewhere on a seahorse.

Where does he go? What happens there? Remember you can do it in 3 bits – Once upon a time…, One day…, In the end….  I’ve uploaded to Seesaw a story writing frame you might like to use or a sea creature border.

Nifty Numbers. The shrimp in Tiddler heard the story from the whale.  Do you know just how big a whale is?

See if you can measure out the real-life size of a whale.  A blue whale is about 30 metres long. It’s heart is 1.5 metres long and 1 metre wide.

If you have the space you could use chalk or mark it out with sticks.  Maybe you could lie down and see how many of you make the same length as a whale.

Understanding the World. Log in to Seesaw to watch the Underwater video, then answer the questions to see how much you can remember.

Cookery Lots of people like to eat fish as it is very good for you.  Have you ever tried fish?  Maybe you could have a go at cooking some fish (fingers) and serving it to your family?

Creative. Turn yourself into a mermaid or merman or make a yourself a tail using an old sock!

Monday

This week our theme is the story of Tiddler by Julia Donaldson. (I have inserted a video as the book is too large to scan to make a powerpoint. ). Enjoy this together, then see if you can answer the questions below.

  • At nine o'clock on Wednesday, Tiddler was 'dawdling'. What does this mean?
  • What does it mean when it says he tells ‘tall tales’?
  • Look carefully at the picture. Who do you think shut Tiddler in the treasure chest?
  • How did the turtle rescue Tiddler?
  • Can you remember the order of the creatures who heard Tiddler’s tall tale, beginning with the anchovies. Login to Seesaw to order the pictures.

PE Click here for some Under the Sea yoga about Squish the Fish.

Writing

Tiddler made up all sorts of excuses about why he was late.  Can you write an excuse about one or more of the following…

  • why you haven’t come back from the park in time for tea
  • why you haven’t tidied your room
  • why you haven’t eaten your vegetables

Can you make a turtle like the one in the story?
