Sport at Clifton - Autumn Term 2014

Here are Clifton's sporting achievements throughout the Autumn Term 2014. One of our main aims  was to increase the participation levels for all children but particualrly those in Key Stage 2 especially in competitive sports. Everyone at school is extremely proud of all children who represent our school in any form of competitive sports.

Clifton Hawks have comfortable win in Worcester Netball League - 4th December 2014

The Clifton Hawks Netball team braved the cold to host the visiting netball team from Kempsey Primary School in the Worcester Netball League. Despite the chilly conditions, the Clifton Hawks got off to a flying start with 12 goals in the first half. This winning streak continued into the second half with every shot at goal seeming to go straight in! The girls played extremely well as a team and the high level of skill on show was superb. The game was played in a super spirit of sportsmanship and respect by both teams. After the match, all the players and spectators enjoyed a very welcome, delicious hot chocolate! Well done girls - we are very proud of you!

A 'high-flying' 4th place at Indoor Athletics Championships - 25th November 2014

14 children from Clifton participated in a Sportshall Athletics Championships competing against other schools in the county. Athletes participated as a team of boys and girls, scoring points in all the events they competed in. Events included: Obstacle race, relays, javelin, long jump, vertical jump and speed bounce. A big well done goes to every member of the team for representing Clifton so well especiaily those who were competing for the first time.

Year 1 and 2 Enjoy Multi-skills Event at Chantry High School - 6th November 2014

Robins class (Year 1 and 2) had an amazing time competing against other schools in a  Muli-skills championships at Chantry High School. Throughout the afternoon, the children competed in a range of events including jumping, throwing and running to develop their agility, balance and coordination skills. Mrs Jackson was so proud of how all of the children had a go at everything with 100% determination and represented Clifton-upon-Teme brilliantly.

Jonah in Year 2 said:

We really enjoyed doing all of the sport. Everything we did was fun but I really liked the obstacle race and the hurdles. The ladder was hard beacuse you had to keep your feet inside. I liked working with the older children because they were kind and they showed us what to do. I think I want to do it again!

What a brilliant afternoon they had and this will get them ready for our Sports Hall Athletics event in school in the Spring Term. Well Done Robins!

Success at West Worcestershire Cross Country Championships for  Rebecca, Jasmine and Ellie - October 2014

Three of our sporting stars were invited to represent Clifton-upon-Teme in the Worcestershire School Games Cross Country Championships. Over 600 children from around the west of the county competed so the competition was tough. Each year group could select from 3 different races depending on their experience of cross country running. The top 6 finishers in each race were selected to go through to the county finals. All of our girls posted high finishing positions with Rebecca finishing in 7th place which means that she is a reserve for the county finals. Well done Girls!

Clifton Falcons Fly High at Tag-Rugby Tournament - October 2014

On Tuesday 7th October, 10 children from KS2 were selected to join the Clifton Falcons school rugby team at a Tag Rugby tournament. As we are quite a new team, with many new players, we were not quite sure how we would get on against more experienced teams. There were 12 teams in total at the festival and the atmosphere was fantastic.  During the course of the festival the Clifton Falcons performed strongly, winning 4 out of 5 of their matches. This meant that the Clifotn Falcons came a very good 2nd place in their group. Then it was into the 3rd and 4th play-off final. This was a really tense match as we desperately wanted to come 3rd overall. The team's determination and talent shone through and the Clifton Falcoms won by 2 tries to 1.

We were so excited and very proud of ourselves too. Our sportsmanship, determination and talent was brillant and we can't wait to play again. Special mentions must go to Ellis, Oli-Joel and Lia for some incredible tries. Well done Mrs Hughes on your excellent refereeing skills too.

Clifton Kestrals' Impressive Performance at Indoor Football Tournament!

8 of us from Eagles class were selected to represent the school at the cluster school's indoor football tournament held at the local high school on the 25th September. We were competing against 8 other schools for the cluster football trophy. It was a fantastic evening with many goals scored. We came 3rd in our group which is such a good achievement as many of us had not played indoor football before and so there were many different rules that we had to learn quickly!

The final was between Martley Primary School and Broadheath Primary School and what a tense final it was. Broadheath narrowly won by 1 goal!  Also, congratulations to Rebecca who was given a player of the tournament award! What a star!
