Forest School 2016 -2017
Robins Class enjoy their weekly Forest School sessions. This involves interaction with each other where communication is learnt and confidence is gained.
How can we measure a sunflower plant without a tape measure? Making potions that can delight but others that wrinkle noses. Followed by water painting. Warning! Be quick, as the mischievious sun will erase all your work before it is finished.
Mud glorious mud. Every child's delight. Prickly hedgehogs and scary faces.
How good would you be with a blindfold on finding your way back to a tree or walking an obstacle course? Using our senses was the aim of these activities.
It's that time of year when Hedgehogs are looking for a safe haven for hibernation. Robins have been busy preparing warm homes for the hedgehogs.
We have been busy making our bird seed balls also seed cones for the coldest period at school hoping to help support the bird population.
We hope you enjoy viewing the den building and mud houses the children have been involved in.
This spring term, Robins topic is Pole to Pole. The first place to visit on their journey is Antartica with its cold climate. The children have penguins on their minds and so in this session carrying a frozen egg gave them an opportunity to image they were the emperor dad balancing a precious chick egg on their feet; protecting it from the frozen ground which would mean certain death if left lying there for minutes rather than hours. Ice curling was also a follow on activity from this, a recognised sport in the Olympic Games.
Spring is really here and so pond dipping took place with Mr Vincent, (our parent expert on pond life) talking to the children and helping them to identify their findings. We have been lucky to find frogs spawn right at the back of the pond.
How much colour would you expect to find in your school grounds or garden? The palettes of colour have shown us we have more than we first thought.
Seed dispersal can be challenging if you're a seed that requires water as its host. Robins met the challenge with enthusiasm, including not just one water fall but two before the seed reached its resting place. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE
