FOREST SCHOOL - 2017-2018
Fledglings Class regularly have Forest School Activities. At school we have a small forest area but each half term Fledglings venture out in the surrounding countryside where many discoveries are made and always take with them a special snack and drink to enjoy.
Robins class enjoy their weekly Forest School sessions. This involves interaction with each other where communication is learnt and confidence gained.
Autumn is slowly creeping in. A brilliant time of year to discover more about Natures wonders, colourful leaves and bountiful fruits. How much of Autumn could you place in a matchbox or similar sized container? 26 was our winner for the day.
It's tricky sometimes to predict if an item will float, sink or do both. This was the challenge set to Robins one sunny autumn afternoon. We had some surprises also accurate assumptions. The following week we took the testing to a different level. Make a boat that will float from sticks, size of sticks not given then test its sturdiness. Once you're afloat find passengers to join you. We saw apples, stones, conkers, conker husks and leaves. As you will discover some were more successful than others. Enjoy looking because we enjoyed learning through playing.
Hug a Bug- This was very tricky when trying to put small woody material into an endless tube of plastic. With perseverance and a mallet to make certain the tubes were solid with material they were then placed around the school grounds in the hope that we will encourage a bug for a winter hug.
Weaving - this was tricky, Whips everywhere, team work and laughter throughout. Good fun and a weaving to show at the end of the afternoon.
Keeping warm is important on a cold afternoon so Robins always have a warm up activity to encourage participation, listening skills and cooperation.
This is the perfect time of the year to make skeletons using twigs, leaves and seed husks but also have you ever wondered how difficult it is for a dung beetle to transport its dung ball with its back legs up and down sand banks? Robins tried this using a ball of mud and their noses. NOT EASY!
Sewing for adults can be hard so when your 5/6 and in windy conditions this is a challenge. Wow!
Amazing sewing skills from both girls and boys also excellent team work when putting the jigsaws together.
Does winter mean lots of brown to you? Have a look at the variety of colour found by the children when they were painting last week February.
